Bio
Rod trained as an actor alongside Daniel Day Lewis at the Bristol Old Vic, one of the top drama schools in England. He then earned an MFA in Theatre at York University, Toronto. He has performed in TV, film and theatre, including a national tour with Peter O'Toole, starring roles at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival and A Noise Within, California's Classical Repertory Company. He has directed more than fifty plays and written seven.
In 1981, he started teaching in conservatory and BFA acting programs, specializing in Voice and Speech. He was a founding faculty memeber of the National Voice Intensive, in Vancouver, Canada, where he taught for fifteen years. In 1995, he opened his own studio in Santa Monica teaching acting and voice classes and coaching such clients as Patricia Arquette, David Duchovny, Marishka Hargitay, Sandra Oh and Alicia Silverstone.
Since 1998, he has been coaching, developing and directing writer/performers on solo shows. Coaching includes Pamela Gien's award winning Syringa Tree, Bo Eason's Runt of the Litter and April Daisy White's Sugar - all directed by Larry Moss, Ann Randolph's Squeezebox, directed by Allan Bailey and produced in New York by Ann Bancroft and JohnFugelsang's All The Wrong Reasons, directed by Pam McKinnon and produced by the New York Theatre Workshop. Among the solo shows Rod has directed are Cheryl King's not a nice girl, Roz Browne's Fried Clams With Bellies, Nina Werman's Around the Way Girl, Meredith Gordon's The Bride Is From California, Alice Johnson's St. Alice of Chattahoochee and Rich Flisher's Minute by Minute.
In 2002, Rod began translating theatre skills into communication tools for attorneys like R. Rex Parris and senior executives from Fortune 500 companies like Disney, Ernst & Young and SCE. Born into a business family, Rod enjoys coaching in the corporate environment. In addition to his own consulting practice, he is currently affiliated with the Cornerstone Executive Development Group in Woodland Hills, CA.
