. . . when your performance counts
Theatre
Rod's dedication to theatre is fueled by his appetite for the possible.
His career began in 1971, when a director invited his rock band to provide live music for an experimental theatre production. In the almost four decades and hundreds of productions since then he has acted, directed, coached, composed, been musical director, and written seven plays that have been professionally produced.
His extensive training, which includes a diploma in acting from the Bristol Old Vic and an MFA from York University, immersed him in techniques developed by Stanislavski, Meyerhold, Grotowski, Peter Brook, Michael Chekov, Stella Adler, Robert Lewis, Richard Schechner, Moishe Feldenkrais, F. M. Alexander, Cicely Berry and Kristin Linlater.
A voice and acting instructor in college programs for twenty years, most recently at USC, Rod has presented workshops, published articles and delivered papers at theatre conferences. He is a founding faculty member of Canada's National Voice Intensive, where he taught for 15 years. In 1995, he stepped away from academia and opened his own acting studio in Los Angeles to further develop his work as a performance coach. In 2001, while continuing his creative activities in the entertainment field, he began translating theatre skills for senior executives in the corporate environment.
"I have seen three of his productions. He is a magician who will not settle for anything less than excellence."
